Airshow Texel

Summer holiday
Six weeks of summer holiday, the perfect time to do something we’d never done before. What about an airshow? ✈️
I’m a big aviation fan (next to all the birds, puppies and sandpipers, of course) and I visit air bases whenever I can. After seeing some of my recent photos, my 8-year-old son told me he wished he’d been there too. So his first day out with his dad this holiday had to be special: the Airshow by Leaseweb on Texel, on 4 August, just an hour and a half away.

Ever heard the sound of a P-51 Mustang? Pure music 🎶
The preparations
Tickets, an overnight stay and the ferry crossing were arranged, and of course ear protection for the little guy, because airshows are loud! After the show we’d visit my parents up north, so our dog Yaz came along too. A whole day at the airshow wouldn’t be fun for her, so we found her a nice place to stay close to the airport 🐾

The show
After a good night’s sleep we headed to the airfield, and oh dear… so many shops! It took some effort not to buy them all empty 😄
We quickly found a spot along the airstrip. Unfortunately some displays were cut short or cancelled because of the weather, but we still saw some great stuff.

One of my favourite acts was a father and son duo. Dad flew the real SIAI-Marchetti SF.260, while his son flew an exact radio-controlled replica right alongside him. Can you tell which one is real? 😉

What’s next?
The next airshow is already planned: the Belgian Air Force Days. A real air force base, the little guy can’t wait! And of course there’s APROC 2018 to look back on.
