2019, New road ahead

Wow, was 2018 a busy year!

Finally 2019, New-road ahead and lots of new things to do.

Now, 6 -7 weeks after moving in my new home everything is slowly getting its place again.
I’m used to having a lot more space, therefore, I have to be creative with the available space.
My house is a lovely place though. I even have a real garden with quite some little-feathered friends ūüôā

Last year I went to several events, visited an old friend, started a new job and moved to my new home.
Regrettably, I was not able to keep the updates going.
Too busy and too much going on to get everything arranged for the move to my new home.

My Photography

My photography never stopped.
Luckily, I still have loads of unposted pictures, therefore, posting every day will not be a problem. Follow me on my social media accounts to find out what has been posted.

New events

With regard to planes and helicopters, the next visits of airforce bases are already planned.

January 9, we had the Farewell Sea-King at the Airforce base Koksijde
The three of us left early so we had some time for a coffee, halfway the trip. Certainly, we arrived on schedule. This event started at 12.30 and we left (earlier) at 18.30. (We had an evening shoot as well!!)

I tell you, it was a very cold day I can tell. We were standing in the open field, just beside the runway. N-W wind straight in our faces, with a few hail and rain shower.

See some of my pictures down below

In April the Frisian Flag 2019 will be organized again.

June, 14 and 15th on the Airforce base Volkel, the Dutch airforce will organize the “Luchtmacht Dagen 2019”

September 13 – 15th, International Sanicole Airshow will organize an amazing show again.

Anything else?

I don’t know yet however I’ll find enough subject to take pictures from.

Furthermore, what I didn’t mention yet, is that I have new gear!!
However, I’ll tell you more about it soon. he pictures from Koksijde were made with this beast of a machine.

Common Sandpiper, wonderful bird with a beautiful sound

The Common Sandpiper

As I’m living close to a river, every day there is something to find, see or hear. In my previous post about “Thunder is coming” you might have noticed the river.

One of the “something” is the¬†Actitis hypoleucos…, the common sandpiper.

Common Sandpiper or Actitis hypoleucosCommon Sandpiper

The common sandpiper breeds across most of temperate and subtropical Europe and Asia and migrates to Africa, southern Asia, and Australia in winter. In the Netherlands, this little bird is on the red list which means that this bird is about to disappear. (or already disappeared from the Netherlands) It seems that in the Netherlands only a 10 – 30 pairs stay to build a nest.

Sometimes I hear the sound of this small bird when I take Yaz out for her daily walks.
The sound, during sunset or sunrise, is for me absolutely wonderful.

When I see them, they’re flying in small flocks, low over the water surface.

Most of the time I have the camera ready but these little creatures are quick and so small and therefore difficult to find on the rocks or to follow when I have them in sight.

Finally

Last Tuesday I took Yaz for a walk, camera ready. Suddenly I heard that beautiful sound again and I saw 2 of these little creatures flying, away from me, down the river shoreline!!
One of the¬†common sandpipers landed not far away from where I was, so… Finally,¬†it’s time to do some photographic hunting.

Amazing Yaz

O, I had Yaz with me, right? She listens very well but what to expect from a 3 years old Flat-coated retriever. Indeed, she has carrots in her ears most of the time.
O yes, she will listen after she has done her thing. Whatever that is…

This time I ordered her to stay on her spot and lay down.
Accordingly, I sneaked closer and closer, taking photos when I could.
When I was looking, where Yaz supposed to be, about 30 yards away back… Guess what. She was still there where she ordered her to¬†stay! I only saw a small part of her head and fluffy ears.

When I signalled her to come over to me there wasn’t any dirt filling the sky.
Normally she is a little canon. Now, she approached very carefully, staying low, until she reached me.
Just a hand signal and she stayed.

Eventually, she did amazingly well.

Meeting in the forest after a long time

The meeting

After a long time, it was today I’d planned a meeting with some friends in a small forest close by. I neede a break after being attacked at home when making a coffee
Not sure they¬†were at home though…

Entering the forest, with my dog Yaz, was a sort of homecoming.
For Yaz too as she was on top speed in record time, down the track in front of us. Well, in this case, it assured my friends did know I was there.

Wow! It’s an amazing day with a lot of sunshine with beautiful flowers and little creatures. In the background noisy birds… My friends.

In the meantime, while I was shooting pictures, Yaz was transforming into a wet mud monster.
As usual, she didn’t realize she had to get back home again…¬†In my car.
Well, we’re just on our way so, that being the case, there was time to dry.

And there they were.
The Long-tailed tit, Eurasian blackcap, and the Short-toed  Treecreeper.

It was a good meeting.
I heard and saw many other birds who were busy.
Either way, I have not been able to find them, so, I have to go back soon.

The sunlight was quite hard and made it difficult today. Nevertheless, I was able to shoot some nice photos anyway.

There are other flying thingies as well.

What’s next?

Still to figure out a lot.
The SNAP auto poster is still a pain. It works but I need to get the different account setup correctly.

If you like to check out SNAP as a plugin on your site, take a look over here.
I have a lot of fun with it.

Visit Airbase Beauvechain and after that.

Yesterday, April 27, we had the opportunity to visit¬†Airbase Beauvechain, close to Brussel. I had an early start with Hans Paul Hemelaar, my brother in crime. An album with photo’s of that visit will follow soon.

Getting ready for the flight

Then I heard a noise…

After that visit, we went to Brussel Airport to do some photographing of the landing airliners. The site where we stopped was a plain piece of ground and it didn’t take long before I heard a noise… This was not the sound of a landing plane.

I heard already a lot of them and that they are not easy to shoot (photographing). But here it is. My first, Blue-headed Wagtail!!
Loving this…..

Portfolio Update

Portfolio Update

Had a busy week with two school events at Edze’s school.
One soccer tournament and one trip to the Zoo Diergaarde Blijdorp. I was totally down and out after these two days. Kids in the age of 8 Р9 years is a handful when trying to control them. Impossible!

At the Zoo the group got an education about camouflage in nature and what sorts of camouflage are used by animals. Have to say, learned some new things by myself as well.

And, a nice surprise was that there was a new family member born within the colobus monkeys.
See picture down below. It was a bit dark and behind glass, so quality is not that good, unfortunately.

What Else?

Anyway.
I have not yet posted pictures of both school events and the kids.¬† The school has the first pick of these ūüėČ
But on the way to the Zoo and back to school, I made some pictures with my phone, one or two of them are posted in my Portfolio.

Galleries

After the last update regarding my galleries, some more pictures have been added to the galleries Wildlife_Birds and Wildlife_Birds of Prey.

What’s next?

Yes, Social media again.
I finished the Social Media.

Equipment used by ShiftyNL-photography

The Equipment

Having looked around on this site and reading the different post about my galleries,¬†you might wonder what equipment I’m using.
Not that¬†it’s important when you just like to see the photo’s on this site.
You just might not be interested in it.

Anyway, I like to tell a bit more about the hardware I use to get these results.
I also use Lightroom, Photoshop and some other nice plugin or standalone tools.

Therefore I added a page to the website to show you what I use.

New photo’s added to my Portfolio

New photo’s added on my site ShiftyNL-Photography.

Since I started setting up this site and posting my first post in November 2017 a lot needed to be sorted out. The technical part behind this site but also a load of pictures.

In my last post of 2019-04-05, I added and updated some galleries.
And still, there are loads of pictures to sort out.

Saturday, 2018-04-07, I used my time to sort out all photo’s taken in 2016 en some from 2017.
Still, have loads to go through.
I re-edited some photo’s in Lightroom and Photoshop and added them to my Portfolio.

Look for them in Dogs, Wildlife_Birds, Wildlife_Mammals and Landscapes_Skylines.

In the Landscapes_Skylines a beautiful picture from the Overwaard windmills at Kinderdijk.

What else?

This week I have a football tournament and a school trip to the Zoo Blijdorp with my son Edze, which will probably add more photo’s to sort out ūüôā

Yes, I have another Social Media channel. This time Pinterest.
Take a look over there. It’s nice.

What’s next?

Next week I’ll travel up north to visit the Frisian Flag 2018 and hope to get some new photo material from this event as well.

An update from this all will follow soon.

I’m also still working on the auto-post script.
It needs some scripting to have it all run smoothly.

Updated My Portfolio on ShiftyNL-Photography

Updated My Portfolio on ShiftyNL-Photography

In my last post, I mentioned that added some new galleries to my portfolio.
Today galleries with some more older and newer work.

Galleries

Two new Galleries are added to the site.

What else?

I finally implemented an auto-post option into the site, which makes it possible to re-post any news and/or update to 5 other social media accounts.
Some live testing is in progress so you might see some not so useful messages the next couple of days which will be deleted afterwards. ūüėČ

What’s next?

Again I added a new social media channel. This time Google+.
Because I was doing an online Social Media Course, I learned that a Google+ account adds a lot more to any posting you do.
Facebook and Instagram do have their own policies which are not always the best for you.
Have look at my Google+ account.

The Galleries

A few days ago I added some new gallery stuff.
After having made all the picture sizes equal I added some new Galleries.
It’s looking even better now.

What’s next?

Social media. Again I added a new social media channel. This time Flipboard.
Because of the setup of Flipboard, I liked the idea to set it up.

Take a look at my Flipboard account!

Yet,¬†I’m still looking for an auto-post script to have it all automated.
There are a few but these are limited to only 3 accounts.
Unfortunately, I have more than 3.
