Small changes and some new views

Small changes and some new views.

The second half of 2020 begins today.
We have seen the longest day of the year already and we’re on our way back to the shortest day…. Obviously, this is not meant to make someone depressive.
Anyways, I’ve been working on a few things.
So, you’ll see small changes and some new views.

Having a snack
The small changes (and some new views)

Why the changes?
Well, for the simple reason, I mentioned it in my previous posts in the last few months.

I’d mentioned the Monthly galleries and you can now view all of them up to June this year.
Thus, have a look and if you like let me know what you think.

Besides the Monthly galleries, I also made some changes to The albums.
In other words, you’ll see a different view as I changed the layout of some of them.

Furthermore, I decided to change the watermark, which I use for the photos. In August I’ll start using the following watermark:
Small changes and some new views

In all honesty, it’s not that fancy but I like it more than the old one. If you watched closely in the picture above you can see it already.
I think you’ll see it mostly in white colour.
Let me know what you think!

Anything else?

Yes, there is more to small changes and some new views.

Macro Photography

Since a week I own a LAOWA 65 mm CA Dreamer Macro 2X lens.
Last year and due to the COVID19 crisis I did a lot of photography close at home and in the garden. First I used my Fujinon 50-140mm lens and extension tubes, which gave quite good results.  Due to the fact that this setup is quite long and more difficult to handle I bought the LAOWA lens.
What a sweetie is this! I love it and I’ll definitely use this one a lot.
So Macro-photography is my new project for the next months to come.

Werk aan de Muur

You’ll see that (or you might already know) I post my photo’s on several social media accounts.
On 2 of these accounts, I do challenges and I feel lucky to have some photos featured 9 times at exhibitions and 1 time in a magazine through Gurushots.
At Viewbug I’m not doing bad either with TOP ranks in 2018 en 2019 + having photos rewarded with Peoples choice.
Have look at them by following the links down below.

So, people started asking me why I do not sell photos.
Well, I don’t know. Why should I? There a lot better photographers than me!
Just give it a try, they said.
So, that’s something new too. I’ll have a look at it and see which photos are qualified (for me) for selling.
When I’m up and running with that I’ll let you know.

How is that for small changes and some new views.

Like I said, you can follow me on social media as I have already, and will, post pictures on a daily base.

In case something new comes up I’ll let you know with an update post.

Have a good one!!

Halfway through 2020

Halfway through 2020

Time flies when you’re having fun. We’re almost halfway through 2020 already!
A lot of things happened since my last post in February though.
As you all know we went straight in a global crisis with the Coronavirus.
Suddenly, everybody was staying at home. People got sick and some of them died. Lockdowns and new regulations to beat this virus were suddenly there.
Now what? What could we do…..

halfway through 2020
Halfway through 2020, COVID-19, CBR.nl

Consequences

The virus, hitting us like a bomb, made us fall back on ourselves.
For example all events, music, aviation, you name it were cancelled. For my work I need to visit customers but no, prohibited. We had to keep a 1,5-meter distance from other people all of a sudden.
More importantly, due to this regulation, I haven’t seen my parents since January. I was also not able to visit my brother who had a severe surgery due to cancer.  Then, it was also not possible to see my girlfriend Sylvia and her kids too!!
On the other hand, when it all happened, my Son was with me for a few weeks. That was a blessing for me.

Creativity

Under those circumstances, people were asked to take their responsibility which did lead to, I think, an amazing creativity boom. I mean creativity in every way thinkable.
So, because that’s where this site is about, photography changing as well.
It was not possible to go out into the streets or anything like that.
As we need to stay home, photography became a challenge too so creativity was required.

halfway through 2020
Corona crisis creativity

In January, I found on Facebook an advertisement from ExperthPhotography about “Wow Factor Photography”.
I’m sure it had to be this way to find this advertisement.
Anyway, there were quite some nice courses to do on this site!

The “Wow Factor Photography” teaches you all kind of creative ways to extend your photography skills. It’s just fun to do it.
Also, it makes you look differently at photography as well. At least I did.

During writing this post I decided to get more in-depth information in Macro Photography.
I mean, I post quite a lot of photo’s as Macro but actually it’s not.
To put it in another way, it’s actually, most of the time, a close up with a Fujinon 100-400mm  or a Fujinon 50- 140mm zoom lens.
On the 50- 140 mm lens I used extension tubes, now and then, so that is macro in some way.

No, I like to get into the real Macro photography this time. Let’s see if ExpertPhotography can give me the requirements for that.

Anything else?

I mentioned that I might be re-arranging the site this year.
As said, I would like to do some more with the posted photos from the last 2 years.
Well, Halfway through 2020, I did. Have a look here and see for yourself.

A page with links to interesting sites with just information or photographer friends has been published as well.
Take a look here to find out about that!

You can also follow me on social media as I have already, and will, post pictures on a daily base.

Common Sandpiper, wonderful bird with a beautiful sound

The Common Sandpiper

As I’m living close to a river, every day there is something to find, see or hear. In my previous post about “Thunder is coming” you might have noticed the river.

One of the “something” is the Actitis hypoleucos…, the common sandpiper.

Common Sandpiper or Actitis hypoleucosCommon Sandpiper

The common sandpiper breeds across most of temperate and subtropical Europe and Asia and migrates to Africa, southern Asia, and Australia in winter. In the Netherlands, this little bird is on the red list which means that this bird is about to disappear. (or already disappeared from the Netherlands) It seems that in the Netherlands only a 10 – 30 pairs stay to build a nest.

Sometimes I hear the sound of this small bird when I take Yaz out for her daily walks.
The sound, during sunset or sunrise, is for me absolutely wonderful.

When I see them, they’re flying in small flocks, low over the water surface.

Most of the time I have the camera ready but these little creatures are quick and so small and therefore difficult to find on the rocks or to follow when I have them in sight.

Finally

Last Tuesday I took Yaz for a walk, camera ready. Suddenly I heard that beautiful sound again and I saw 2 of these little creatures flying, away from me, down the river shoreline!!
One of the common sandpipers landed not far away from where I was, so… Finally, it’s time to do some photographic hunting.

Amazing Yaz

O, I had Yaz with me, right? She listens very well but what to expect from a 3 years old Flat-coated retriever. Indeed, she has carrots in her ears most of the time.
O yes, she will listen after she has done her thing. Whatever that is…

This time I ordered her to stay on her spot and lay down.
Accordingly, I sneaked closer and closer, taking photos when I could.
When I was looking, where Yaz supposed to be, about 30 yards away back… Guess what. She was still there where she ordered her to stay! I only saw a small part of her head and fluffy ears.

When I signalled her to come over to me there wasn’t any dirt filling the sky.
Normally she is a little canon. Now, she approached very carefully, staying low, until she reached me.
Just a hand signal and she stayed.

Eventually, she did amazingly well.

Thunder is coming, time for an experiment

Thunder is coming

Yesterday evening, dark clouds were floating in from the south-east.
I was checking the weather-app all the time to find out what it would bring this evening.

A few weeks of warm weather, no rain, made me run outdoors almost every day and visit my friends in the cool forest. Long, extremely, warm days eventually made me wish for something, which I like a lot. Watching the sky and checking apps it just had to be. Thunder is coming.

Thunderstorm, Thunder

Experiment

Photographing thunderstorms or lightning is something I never did before.
So,  for me, it was time to do an experiment. In the room upstairs I had a good view on the arriving thunderstorm.

As soon as it started raining and the lightning was getting more intense, I grabbed my tripod and my camera with the AF-P Nikkor 18-55, F 3.5-5.6G lens.
Trying to get a good focus somewhere in the sky… Shutter speed set at 10″

Experiment

During the set up I missed a few good ones… Shame.

But the view without the lighting was nice already!

New setting for me

I never used the interval shooting option on the camera so I had to figure out how that setting worked. I read about it in the manual but there was no time to read that part again.
After fiddling with the camera menu I was ready to go.
Again, missed some good lightning shots.
First two times, I used the interval setting 125×1 with a shutter speed set on 10″
The third run was on 375×1 with the same shutter speed. That would take an hour to finish.

The results

As a result, I have been experimenting a total of  2 – 3 hours.
You need to take time for this, right?

After finishing up and when I was laying in my bed I really needed to see the results. Of course.
In total, I had over 600 pictures of this thunder experiment.
How many with a lightning ray?

Just 12.

But there were also some other interesting photos as well.
The river de Lek,  in front of my house, is always busy with all kind of ships.
I mean Cargoships just keep on moving. Also when normal people, who have nothing to do with shipping,  are sleeping…

I’m not normal I guess. On the other hand, it gave some nice photos which I need to sort out first.

I need more of these moments, eventually…
Instead the room upstairs, a different setting next time. Maybe somewhere in the fields??

What’s next?

Eventually, new photos will be added on a regular base.
furthermore, for any new experiments or experiences, I’ll make post updates.

Meeting in the forest after a long time

The meeting

After a long time, it was today I’d planned a meeting with some friends in a small forest close by. I neede a break after being attacked at home when making a coffee
Not sure they were at home though…

Entering the forest, with my dog Yaz, was a sort of homecoming.
For Yaz too as she was on top speed in record time, down the track in front of us. Well, in this case, it assured my friends did know I was there.

Wow! It’s an amazing day with a lot of sunshine with beautiful flowers and little creatures. In the background noisy birds… My friends.

In the meantime, while I was shooting pictures, Yaz was transforming into a wet mud monster.
As usual, she didn’t realize she had to get back home again… In my car.
Well, we’re just on our way so, that being the case, there was time to dry.

It was a good meeting.
I heard and saw many other birds who were busy.
Either way, I have not been able to find them, so, I have to go back soon.

The sunlight was quite hard and made it difficult today. Nevertheless, I was able to shoot some nice photos anyway.

Photo Albums

Photo Albums

On my site, I show a lot of photos in my Portfolio. But you can see lot more photos. Therefore I prepared a page with photo albums, to show you all the photo collections of the different events. Starting with the recent visit of the air force base Beauvechain.

MIG-29 taking off, Frisian Flag 2018, Photo Albums, wildlife, aviation, landscapes, sport

Photo Albums.

The albums do not necessarily show a story. Most of the time it’s just a collection with the same subject but ordered in the time taken. So it gives a bit of story or timeline.

The subjects

Target is to have the photo albums show all kind of events, visits or other activities. Subjects will be wildlife, aviation, landscapes, sport or anything else. The sky is the limit, right?

Today I start with the visits of two air force bases.

  1. The first album will show Airforce base Leeuwarden during the military exercise 2018 Frisian Flag.
  2. The second album is from my visit to the Belgium Airforce base Beauvechain. I told you about that visit Apr 28, 2018.

Go here for my photo albums page or follow the link in the menu at the top of the screen

What’s next?

As the photo albums page has been set up I’ll make the portfolios a bit smaller. In the next couple of weeks, I’ll sort that out.

2018 June 4, I’ll visit the large-scale APROC military exercise at Gilze Rijen Airforce base.
You can expect a series of photo’s of that soon in the photo albums.

Black and White in June

Black and White in June
Thumb up! Black and White
Thumb up!
Black and White

After some nice streets events, and day trips with Edze, I had quite some pictures to sort out. Some of them looked awesome in Black & White.
So I thought, let’s post one black and white photo each day in June!

The subjects

I’d read some articles about street photography, just to find out what to take into account before trying anything.

If you’re interested in street photography I would advise you to do some reading on this subject. A lot of articles can be found on the internet.
Keep in mind, it’s not what you do photograph but more how and when, with regard to privacy etc.

You can find some articles on my Flipboard page, Photography Tips, which I have been reading.

Actually, it’s just a matter of doing, scan your surrounding constantly and you’ll start to see more scenes worth photographing.

During the cycling event, I took my time and stayed in one place for some time, just to see what was happening around me. Of course, there were the situations with objects or persons which were easy to catch (like the cyclists) Others I found a little bit more difficult because I was close by and was hoping they didn’t notice me, staring at them through my lens. Exciting!!

During the day trips with Edze, most of the time I did not have the opportunity. A kid jumping around, yelling for his dad to see or do this and that is a challenge on its own. It was a lot of fun though.

The results

After gathering a lot of images of all kind of subjects I was very pleased with the results.
I had given myself the opportunity to do this experiment and I loved it!

What’s next?

More Black and White photos will follow definitely.
Most of the photo’s where taken in the place where I’m living. A small village. So much to see.
Imagine what will happen in a big city like Rotterdam!
I’ll plan a visit soon! So keep an eye on this site to find out what will happen. (can’t wait to find out? Have a look over here because it happened!!)

My portfolio has been updated already so if you can’t wait to see them, you’re welcome to have a look at my portfolio “Black & White”

Enjoy!!

Alles heeft een reden

“In Memoriam”

Deze bezoekjes raakten me heel diep.

Alles heeft een reden
Alles heeft een reden – Everything has a reason

Respect vriend.

Always

SteenokkerZeel – Airport Brussel

Together with my friend, we stayed there for an hour or so. Just watching commercial airliners come in for the landing.

O and did you see the last post too?
That post was also about SteenokkerZeel – Airport Brussel and there are other flying thingies as well.

What’s next?

Still to figure out a lot.
The SNAP auto poster is still a pain. It works but I need to get the different account set up correctly.

If you like to check out SNAP as a plugin on your site, take a look over here.
I have a lot of fun with it.

Anything else?

Yes, I’ll upload some new photo’s to the albums and portfolio in the next couple of weeks. When I find the time.
Keep an eye out on this site because more will follow soon 😉

Visit Airbase Beauvechain and after that

Visit Airbase Beauvechain and after that

The Visit Airbase Beauvechain and after that.
Yesterday, April 27, we had the opportunity to visit Airbase Beauvechain, close to Brussel. I had an early start with Hans Paul Hemelaar, my brother in crime. An album with photo’s of this visit will follow soon.

Getting ready for the flight
Getting ready for the flight
Then I heard a noise…

After that visit, we went to Brussel Airport to do some photographing of the landing airliners. The site where we stopped was a plain piece of ground and it didn’t take long before I heard a noise… This was not the sound of a landing plane.

I heard already a lot of them and that they are not easy to shoot (photographing). But here it is. My first, Blue-headed Wagtail!!
Loving this…..
