Exciting coffee including Jumping spiders

Exciting coffee

Did you ever have an exciting coffee? Well, I did today!

In my previous post, I told you something about a spider right?
Read this down below!

Preparing the coffee

Sometimes you have the feeling you need another cup of coffee even though you already had quite a lot of it.
I have a lot of these moments so, my cup already close to the coffee machine indeed, it was time again.

Because picking up my cup, I think,  something moved fast away from me… Such as through the air! In all honesty, It scared me for a moment.
Having a quick look and I was on my way to grab the Fuji-X30 camera. (good macro function)

Jumping spider, Exciting coffee

A jumping spider

The little jumping away thing was a jumping spider.

First of all, I see these spiders a lot around the house and on the balcony.
In bad weather, they hide in small silk litters in crevices and cracks, where they also spend the winter. Let’s say, we have a lot of these hidings around the house
Jumping spiders are day-active animals and prefer to stay in warm, sunny places. They stalk their prey on the ground, on walls or in bushes. When an unlucky prey comes within reach, it will be jumped.

A side note is that not all of the jumping spiders are carnivores but some spiders live partly on nectar.

Spider vs camera

I tried to make a photo of this little friend.
It attacked the camera by jumping against the lens and on top of the camera. Because this little one was a courageous spider definitely.

The jump

Hydraulically stretching of the hind legs makes them able to jump as they do. Jumping they catch prey and escape enemies.
Before the spider makes a jump, it first strands a security thread, in case it gets out of the course. A prey normally has little chance because the jump is usually very well calculated.

Have to say that my camera did not make any chance!!

Finally the coffee

As a result of all of this, it was indeed an exciting coffee.
Especially because I was able to capture this beautiful creature with the camera.

A highly respected photographer whose work I know always adds the following text with his photos, “You have got to love nature and its creations.”

Nothing is truer than that.

Nature lunch

Nature lunch

Yesterday I had a good walk with my dog Yaz after she had to take in easy the last few weeks. She had surgery on her left paw. Quite a big wound which had to heal properly. So no running, no jumping or long walks.

After a nice walk in a small forest nearby it was time to have some lunch. For me, a cup of coffee and fried eggs were ordered.
Suddenly I felt tickling on my foot…..

Ieks!!

There was something else having its nature lunch too!!

Nature lunch, Spider wasp
Nature lunch

A spider wasp dragging its catch to its nest. Only my foot was in its way obviously.

The Spider Wasp

Adult spider wasps are nectar-feeding insects and feed on a variety of plants.  The female wasps search for a variety of spiders for their larva to feed on, like wolf spiders for instance. It first bytes of the spider’s legs.
It then can drag the spider more easily to its nest where it will lay one egg on the spider.
So this wasp was not having lunch, obviously.

The wasp larva feeds on its host, it saves the vital organs, such as the heart and central nervous system, for last.
By waiting until the final larval instar, it ensures the spider will not decompose before the larva has fully developed.

The newborn wasp will emerge the following spring. Until then it stays it its little hole in the ground.

My lunch?

Yes, my lunch was excellent, no complaints.
Had a coca cola too which was very nice. It was quite warm outside, even in the shade.

I’ll make some changes (still) in my portfolio and albums the next couple of weeks.
I also mentioned something about artistic photography, in a recent post, which is my next project. Well,.. Summer is really here and It’s no fun working inside on a laptop. As soon I have anything done on that subject I’ll let you know.

Enjoy!!

Summertime, new photo’s and a start with artistic photos

Summertime!!

It is Summertime, it’s hot outside so I’m staying in, doing some preparing photos for the site for the next couple of weeks.
Although living close to the river, a lot of interesting activities happen too.

Lucky Bastard, Summertime, artistic photos, wildlife, black and white
Lucky Bastard

Last month I posted only black and white photo’s. I thought it was fun to do. Still, have a lot of photos who might like nice in black & white.

To find my way more into Photoshop I recently started an online course which covers loads of ways to do more with black & white and making artistic photos.

When you like the idea to do the same please have look at “My Photo Artistic Life
I already learned a lot more in the last 3 weeks.

Artistic Photos

I think that will be my next project for the next couple of months.
Using your photos in a more artistic way or just combining them in some other way. So, as I found out, it made me keep more photos instead of deleting them.

Yes, needed to check and recheck the photos to find out which ones I wanted to keep for sure, and maybe use them for my new project.

Last month I showed already two or three of them in my black and white series. Also in my post where I told you about my visit to Scheveningen, there is one altered picture.
These were my first ones, let’s say tryouts. Fun to make them. I would like to make more.

What’s next?

In the month of July, I’ll post a gathering of older and new photos.
There will be birds, landscapes, black and white, and mammals.
Mostly the usual, wildlife.

Enjoying the summer, Summertime, artistic photos, wildlife, black and white

My portfolio has been updated some so you’re welcome to have a look at my portfolio

I’ll make some changes in my portfolio and albums in the next couple of weeks. (Yes, still working on it)

Keep an eye on it and check in now and then.

Scheveningen boulevard is under construction

The Scheveningen boulevard is under construction

I went to Scheveningen boulevard, yesterday, to enjoy the beautiful weather at the beach and terraces.
After parking the car close at Scheveningen harbor while walking towards the boulevard and the Scheveningen beach, I noticed a largely fenced building site, north of the Scheveningen boulevard.

Legal Graffiti

On some parts of the fence, paintings were made. While other parts were still blank. In addition, names were written down on the blank parts so in a few weeks the look will be different.

The two funny guys, on the photo down, told that local graffiti artists have been invited to do their artwork on this fence.

Yet, the assigned graffiti artists still need to paint large areas. On the other hand, there were already some nice paintings done.

Steady progress

On this beautiful day, two artists were working on their part of the fence though. The artists were working concentrated, surrounded by all their gear.

Anyway, I had a beautiful day.
Beside the fence getting shape slowly, it was nice to relax on one of the terraces and walk on Scheveningen boulevard.

I have to go back soon and check the progress of the artwork.
And walking at the Scheveningen beach or boulevard, on a beautiful day, is always fun anyway.

Photo Albums

Photo Albums

On my site, I show a lot of photos in my Portfolio. But you can see lot more photos. Therefore I prepared a page with photo albums, to show you all the photo collections of the different events. Starting with the recent visit of the air force base Beauvechain.

The albums do not necessarily show a story. Most of the time it’s just a collection with the same subject but ordered in the time taken. So it gives a bit of story or timeline.

The subjects

Target is to have the photo albums show all kind of events, visits or other activities. Subjects will be wildlife, aviation, landscapes, sport or anything else. The sky is the limit, right?

Today I start with the visits of two air force bases.

  1. The first album will show Airforce base Leeuwarden during the military exercise 2018 Frisian Flag.
  2. The second album is from my visit to the Belgium Airforce base Beauvechain. I told you about that visit Apr 28, 2018.

Go here for my photo albums page or follow the link in the menu at the top of the screen

What’s next?

As the photo albums page has been set up I’ll make the portfolios a bit smaller. In the next couple of weeks, I’ll sort that out.

2018 June 4, I’ll visit the large-scale APROC military exercise at Gilze Rijen Airforce base.
You can expect a series of photo’s of that soon in the photo albums.

Black and White in June

Black and White in June
Thumb up! Black and White
Thumb up!
Black and White

After some nice streets events, and day trips with Edze, I had quite some pictures to sort out. Some of them looked awesome in Black & White.
So I thought, let’s post one black and white photo each day in June!

The subjects

I’d read some articles about street photography, just to find out what to take into account before trying anything.

If you’re interested in street photography I would advise you to do some reading on this subject. A lot of articles can be found on the internet.
Keep in mind, it’s not what you do photograph but more how and when, with regard to privacy etc.

You can find some articles on my Flipboard page, Photography Tips, which I have been reading.

Actually, it’s just a matter of doing, scan your surrounding constantly and you’ll start to see more scenes worth photographing.

During the cycling event, I took my time and stayed in one place for some time, just to see what was happening around me. Of course, there were the situations with objects or persons which were easy to catch (like the cyclists) Others I found a little bit more difficult because I was close by and was hoping they didn’t notice me, staring at them through my lens. Exciting!!

During the day trips with Edze, most of the time I did not have the opportunity. A kid jumping around, yelling for his dad to see or do this and that is a challenge on its own. It was a lot of fun though.

The results

After gathering a lot of images of all kind of subjects I was very pleased with the results.
I had given myself the opportunity to do this experiment and I loved it!

What’s next?

More Black and White photos will follow definitely.
Most of the photo’s where taken in the place where I’m living. A small village. So much to see.
Imagine what will happen in a big city like Rotterdam!
I’ll plan a visit soon! So keep an eye on this site to find out what will happen. (can’t wait to find out? Have a look over here because it happened!!)

My portfolio has been updated already so if you can’t wait to see them, you’re welcome to have a look at my portfolio “Black & White”

Enjoy!!

Alles heeft een reden

“In Memoriam”

Deze bezoekjes raakten me heel diep.

Alles heeft een reden
Alles heeft een reden – Everything has a reason

Respect vriend.

Always

Still to figure out a lot.
The SNAP auto poster is still a pain. It works but I need to get the different account setup correctly.

If you like to check out SNAP as a plugin on your site, take a look over here.
I have a lot of fun with it.

Visit Airbase Beauvechain and after that.

Yesterday, April 27, we had the opportunity to visit Airbase Beauvechain, close to Brussel. I had an early start with Hans Paul Hemelaar, my brother in crime. An album with photo’s of that visit will follow soon.

Getting ready for the flight
Getting ready for the flight
Then I heard a noise…

After that visit, we went to Brussel Airport to do some photographing of the landing airliners. The site where we stopped was a plain piece of ground and it didn’t take long before I heard a noise… This was not the sound of a landing plane.

I heard already a lot of them and that they are not easy to shoot (photographing). But here it is. My first, Blue-headed Wagtail!!
Loving this…..
