Getting ready for 2020

Almost December

Time flies when you’re having fun they say. And did I have fun this year!
Beautiful summer for lots of macro pictures, some awesome air shows and a great vacation in Croatia. Now its time for Getting ready for 2020.

After a lot of aviation pictures in October and November, I’ll be back with a series of “everything pictures”, in December.
Although there is much more to show of the subject but No planes this time.

Getting ready for 2020
Silver tree
Getting ready for 2020

What does that mean?
Well, I don’t know. Because I live day by day I just watch and see what I’ll find on my path.
It will be an interesting year, just like last year, that I know.
New opportunities, challenges, you name it.

Nature is getting ready as well.
Although there is still a lot of food available, I see a lot of collar parakeets getting in the neighbourhoods to find some extras. We have real apple thieves over here!

Writing this post on November 2nd, I’ll make some preparations for the birds too. Getting some extra food in the tree is done every year during the colder months.

Apple thief

Even the snails are getting ready, feeding on whatever they can, before they crawl in a hiding for the real cold.
Real winter has not been seen for years over here but you never know, right?

I need to be careful in the garden has these little friends are everywhere. I hate to step on them.

Looking over the edge
What’s next?

The next couple of weeks I’ll try to find out what there is to do regarding events etc.
As said, the Sanicole Airshow is on the list for 2020.

In an earlier post I mentioned, I was thinking about doing some experiments with self-made tools to get some creative photo’s.
I also mentioned my FX-35mm F2 R WR lens for B&W but in the meantime, I have my Fuji X30 back, which I used for B&W before.

I’m using the X3o again, having it close by all day long.

Digitalizing my analogue pictures is still ready to start, although my parents had me made some from there collection 😉

Anything else?

I still need to upload some new photo’s to the albums and portfolio. I hope to do this in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe I’ll change the concept of that entirely and make something completely different.
Yeah, that’s also getting ready for 202o

You can also follow me on social media as I have already and will post pictures on a daily base.

In case something new comes up I’ll let you know with an update post.

Wait and nature comes to you

Wait and nature comes to you

I think this is true. Someone once told me: “Wait and nature comes to you”
He’s right although for some sceneries, animals or flora you have to get your gear and hit the road.
But, this is a subject about my own garden.

Wait and nature comes to youHedge sparrow

After the two months of aviation and this month finishing with the Sanicole Airshow 2019, this post is a preparation of the months to come.
Not he posting but going back into nature or as the title says, “Wait and nature comes to you”.

Feeding the birds

When I don’t forget, I give the birds extra food during the scarce time of the year. Ordered some feeding goodies as I have a different garden now and have space for it.

After the feeding, all kind of little creatures arrived. Making little fights and a lot of noise.
So, time to set up the camera because the little friends seemed to busy noticing me. I made some nice photo’s of my little friends as the Wren, sparrows, hedge sparrow, robin and even turtledoves.

Read the title again!

After a while, enjoying the feeding of the bunch of birdies I noticed some movement in the corner of my eye…..
After a while, me keeping very still, it came closer.

O dear, it’s shy

The picture above is just 2 and a half meters away from me!
Curious what kind of little friend this?

Goldcrest
Goldcrest

One of the smallest bird in Europe, the Goldcrest!!

This little one was looking for food just a few meters away from where I was standing. Not the sharpest photo but for this post, it will do
Is that a, Wait and nature comes to you, or not. It is, isn’t it?
More to come, keep an eye on my posts on social media.

What’s next?

Still thinking about it.

Today I mounted my Super-Takumar 55mm on my Fuji XT-3.
Made some shots with it, exercising the manual focus.  Had some good shots though.

For the rest, I don’t know yet what I will do. Just hang in there, wait and see 😉

Anything else?

I still need to upload some new photo’s to the albums and portfolio. I hope to do this in the next couple of weeks. I know, I said a few times already.

2019 Sanicole Airshow was awesome

Sanicole Airshow

Hechtel-Eksel, Belgium was the place where the 2019 Sanicole Airshow did take place this year. I did tell something about it in the previous post of September 30 this year and in my Events.

Ok, another whole month with aviation stuff in November.
Sanicole Airshow only this time.

2019 Sanicole Airshow

Awesomeness

What a beautiful day it was.
Sun high in the sky, good ambience, my girlfriend beside me, we had our food and drinks and an amazing show.

This time the B-17 Sally B was there as well.
Due to technical problems, she was not able to visit the Wings of Freedom air show which we’d visit on August 24 this year.

Also a guest I only did see on the television.
An amazing USAF, CV-22 Osprey……

2019 Sanicole Airshow
CV-22 Osprey

This day, for me, was total awesomeness for sure.

What’s next?

I still have real plans made yet.
All the pictures of this 2019 Sanicole Airshow still need be finalized.

The Sanicole Airshow, for next year, is on the list though!

In the previous post I mentioned, I was thinking about doing some experiments with self-made tools to get some creative photo’s.
I also mentioned my FX-35mm F2 R WR lens for B&W but in the meantime, I have my Fuji XT30 back, which I used for B&W before.

And digitalizing my analogue pictures is still ready to start. Only the weather is still too good for this.

I don’t know yet what I will do. Just hang in there, wait and see 😉

Anything else?

I still need to upload some new photo’s to the albums and portfolio. I hope to do this in the next couple of weeks.

A Month of Aviation in October

October, A Month Aviation

Why a whole month of aviation?
I mentioned in my previous post about Wings of Freedom that I did not post anything about my visit to the Air Force Days Dutch Airforce and that the Sanicole Airshow is coming up.

October, Month of Aviation
Saab JAS 39C – Airforce Days at Volkel

The events

I did visit 7 events this year.

  • Farewell Seaking
  • Frisian Flag 2019
  • KLU Historical Flight
  • A visit to the 301 Squadron
  • Airforce Days at Volkel
  • Wings of Freedom
  • Sanicole Airshow

I made a load of photos and after a selection, I still have to choose from about 1100 photos. Do I keep or delete them? Eventually, I can not choose!!
Because every day more photos, not only aviation photo’s, are added to the collection it is difficult to choose.
Above all, no, it’s not stressful!! It’s a hobby, still.

A few of the many

So, October is the month in which I’ll post one photo of a (former) military plane each day.
However, there a lot more beautiful photos which I might post in the coming months. Indeed, A Month of Aviation.

See the next couple of photos to get an impression.

Farewell Seaking

Eurofighter – Frisian Flag 2019

KLu Historial Flight

October, Month of Aviation
DHC1 Chipmunk- Wings of Freedom

Thus a month of Aviation….
I have to say, in my opinion, there are quite some awsome photos coming up.

What’s next?

For now, I don’t have any real plans made yet.

For this reason, I was thinking about doing some experiments with self-made tools to get some creative photo’s.
Even though I do make a lot of B&W photos already, it might be a nice project to do some (B&W) photography with my FX-35mm F2 R WR lens only.

Instead of doing nothing I’ll use my cameras anyway, everywhere.

O, and there is one project starting anyways! Ever heard of Photomyne?
Photomyne is an app with which you can scan old photos with your phone. Actually you take photo’s of your old prints and you store them in an online account and your phone.

From your phone, you can download to your computer as well. In this case, you can add them to a library and process them with Capture One, Lightroom or another photo-edit programme.

Anything else?

Yes, I’ll upload some new photo’s to the albums and portfolio in the next couple of weeks.

You can also follow me on social media as I have already or will post pictures on a daily base.

In case something comes up I’ll let you know with an update post.

Wings of Freedom, 75 years later

Wings of Freedom

I’d visit, together with my girlfriend, the amazing airshow “Wings of Freedom” in Ede, with which 75 years of freedom was celebrated.

Wings of Freedom
Wings of Freedom

The history of our Freedom today

June 6, 1944, Operation Overlord, the code name of the Western allies started to finally liberate Western Europe. After the start of this operation, several temporary airports were built at various locations.
This proved to be very effective and was a major contribution to the liberation of the occupied countries.

I posted, June 6 of this year, about my visit to Airforce base Gilze Rijen, home of the 301 Redskin squadron with their AH-64D Apache helicopters.
Part of the Dutch Royal Airforce and one of the symbols of our freedom, as we know it nowadays.

Freedom, a right, most of us take for granted, not realizing how it was obtained 75 years ago during the horrible World War-II and after that.

The Event “Wings of Freedom”

I did not know what to expect from this event, of course, and it turned out to be a major surprise.

The organisation did build a real airstrip including a traffic control tower!!
For the spectators, a large field was available including all kind of stalls where refreshments and food were available. A lot of people came to see this event.
Accordingly, I heard them calling +30.000 spectators were on the field.

Wings of Freedom
Wings of Freedom

We arrived 09.30 hours, together with my girlfriend, and walked around for a while before the real show started. For my sweetheart, it was the first time she’d visit such an event.

At 12.15pm the event started with the necessary formalities.
Accordingly, the real air show started.

I’ve seen planes, which flew in the WW-II period, I never saw before!
Like the Lysander V9312

Wings of Freedom
Wings of Freedom – Lysander V9312

Of course, there was a lot more to see and I will post more planes, on my social media, who were active in that crazy period, 75 years ago.
The period we must never forget and remember them who said.

“When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.”

Wings of Freedom definitely did remember them.

What’s next?

I have one nice event coming up for this month. There are, for now, no more events planned

  • The Sanicole Airshow. I obtained the tickets already for me and my girlfriend Sylvia. So, I look forward to this amazing day as there will be some very nice fighter planes to see.
Anything else?

While I did not tell you about the Air Force Days Dutch Airforce yet. So I’ll try to post something about that event as soon as possible.
So keep an eye out for any updates.

However, you can also follow me on social media as I have already or will post pictures on a daily base.

AH-64D Apache helicopter

AH-64D Apache

During the visit to the Redskins 301sq, at the Gilze Rijen air force base, home of the Dutch AH-64D Apache helicopters, there was a very pleasant surprise at the end of the day.
A real demo flight of an AH-64D Apache.

Model helicopter

One of the employees did spend hours and hours of building a model of the AH-64D Apache helicopter.
The result is amazing. Honestly…..
Have a look at the two pictures down below.

AH-64D Apache helicopter
AH-64D Apache

AH-64D Apache helicopter

Gilze Rijen air force base

Visiting the Gilze Rijen air force base is party time for me.
Last few years I did visit the air force base Gilze Rijen quite often. Last year, during the APROC 2018, was one of them.

I just love the AH-64D Apache. The sound, the machine itself, just everything. During these visits, I’m able to see the  AH-64D Apache helicopter closeby and it makes me happy.
When I have the opportunity again I will not say no to another visit.

What’s next?

I have some nice events coming up which, some of them, I already mentioned them in a previous post.

  • Next week Thursday I’ll visit the air force base Volkel.
  • 24th of August there is the Airshow Wings of Freedom. Tickets have been ordered for me and my girlfriend Sylvia.
  • In September I’ll visit the Sanicole Airshow. Tickets have been ordered for me and my girlfriend Sylvia.
  • In October, this year, I’ll have another amazing workshop shoot with Claudio Picolli. I’m really looking forward to that one as well.
Anything else?

I’ll try to post any activities as soon as possible.
However, you can follow me on social media or keep an eye on my portfolio

Enjoy!!

Street Photography in Rotterdam

Street Photography in Rotterdam

In my post last year about Black and White in June, I asked myself how it would be when doing street photography in the big city Rotterdam.
Eventually, it took me a while before I dared to dive into this kind of photography.

Red, Street Photography in Rotterdam
Red

Workshop

Taking pictures on the street is definitely something unusual.
Therefore I submitted to a workshop on street photography.
After some searching on the internet, I found a workshop, organized by Fokko Muller.
Thereafter, I entered the big city Rotterdam.
It appeared a scary thing to do, actually.

During this workshop, I had to do various exercises.
Each exercise had a different approach on how to take pictures.
Preferably ignored by the people who were my victims.

The results

In the end, I was absolutely happy with the results and street photography was less scary than expected.
When you approach the people in some way, they don’t even bother that you’re taking pictures. This also depends on how you aim the camera towards people.
The one-third rule helps a lot because you’re not aiming directly towards the people.

Album

Thus, I’ll upload the album of this session somewhere in the next couple of weeks. I’ll not post all of them though. Just the good ones ( in my opinion)

What’s next?

I have some nice events coming up which, some of them, I already mentioned in a previous post.

  • Next week I’ll drive up north to the 2019 Frisian Flag
  • In October, this year, I’ll have another amazing workshop shoot with Claudio Picolli. I’m really looking forward to that one as well.
  • 2 more flight shows are scheduled to visit.
  • Spring is here, therefore I’ll get my macro gear more frequently. With my new Fuji XT3 combined with some macro tubes and analogue lens (Super Takamura 55mm), I enjoy myself a lot.If you like to find out what gear I use, in my post of 2018-04-09, I told something about the equipment. Something has changed though.
Anything else?

I’ll try to post any activities as soon as possible.

2019, New road ahead

Wow, was 2018 a busy year!

Finally 2019, New-road ahead and lots of new things to do.

Now, 6 -7 weeks after moving in my new home everything is slowly getting its place again.
I’m used to having a lot more space, therefore, I have to be creative with the available space.
My house is a lovely place though. I even have a real garden with quite some little-feathered friends 🙂

.First visitor
First visitor

Last year I went to several events, visited an old friend, started a new job and moved to my new home.
Regrettably, I was not able to keep the updates going.
Too busy and too much going on to get everything arranged for the move to my new home.

My Photography

My photography never stopped.
Luckily, I still have loads of unposted pictures, therefore, posting every day will not be a problem. Follow me on my social media accounts to find out what has been posted.

2019, New-road ahead, lots of new things to happen!
New events

With regard to planes and helicopters, the next visits of airforce bases are already planned.

January 9, we had the Farewell Sea-King at the Airforce base Koksijde
The three of us left early so we had some time for a coffee, halfway the trip. Certainly, we arrived on schedule. This event started at 12.30 and we left (earlier) at 18.30. (We had an evening shoot as well!!)

I tell you, it was a very cold day I can tell. We were standing in the open field, just beside the runway. N-W wind straight in our faces, with a few hail and rain shower.

See some of my pictures down below

June, 14 and 15th on the Airforce base Volkel, the Dutch airforce will organize the “Luchtmacht Dagen 2019”

September 13 – 15th, International Sanicole Airshow will organize an amazing show again.

Anything else?

I don’t know yet however I’ll find enough subject to take pictures from.

Furthermore, what I didn’t mention yet, is that I have new gear!!
However, I’ll tell you more about it soon. he pictures from Koksijde were made with this beast of a machine.

Boeing CH-47 Chinook

The APROC 2018 Album is live.

In the post, of 2018/06/09, I mentioned that 2018 was the year that the Royal Netherlands Air Force hosted the exercise APROC 2018.

I needed quite some time to get the pictures sorted out and accordingly published on my site. Finally, it’s here. However, there are more photos which I’ll add later to the APROC 2018 Album.

APROC 2018 Album
Swedish Black Hawk

A military show or exercise like the APROC is a little different than an airshow like the Airshow by LeaseWeb Texel.

Different countries, several types of helicopters. An amazing organisation at work to get this done.
This was the real hardcore stuff.

What’s next?

I had another shoot with lovely puppies last week. I’ll post an album of these little creatures soon accordingly.

With regard to planes and helicopters, the next journey is already planned.  The Belgian Air Force Day. Next Saturday I’ll be heading for Belgium.

Keep an eye on my portfolio

Anything else?

Yes, I’ll upload some new photo’s to the albums and portfolio in the next couple of weeks. When I find the time

You can also follow me on social media as I have already or will post pictures on a daily base.
